Viking built-in columns and side-by-sides cool through a sealed system: compressor, condenser and evaporator fans, and a metered charge. We trace warm-box calls along the airflow path — a stalled condenser or evaporator fan motor, a defrost heater or iced defrost drain, a tired door gasket bleeding cold, a damper stuck part-open, or a drifting thermistor feeding the control bad temperatures. Freezer drawers and wine-storage compartments share the same sealed-system logic and are diagnosed here too.
On Viking sealed- and open-burner cooktops the spark module feeds each igniter, and most no-light and constant-click faults sit there or under a fouled burner cap. We clear and true the burner, check the brass orifice and surface control, replace a failed spark module or igniter, and reset the VariSimmer low end for a true simmer. Porcelain and cast-iron grates and knobs are part of the same job.
Viking oven cavities heat through a bake or broil element (electric) or a glow-bar igniter feeding the safety valve (gas), and read temperature through an RTD sensor the control trusts. We meter the element or igniter, test the RTD against its resistance curve, check the convection fan, free a binding door hinge or weak door spring, and finish with a true calibration so the cavity holds the dial.
Common faults
When a Viking built-in drifts warm and the compressor runs without let-up, the cause is usually airflow, not refrigerant — a stalled condenser fan, or a failed evaporator fan starving the fresh-food side of cold. We confirm which fan, fit a genuine motor, and watch the box pull back to spec.
A compartment stuck in the high 40s usually points to a damper jammed part-open or a thermistor feeding the control a false reading. We test the damper and meter the thermistor, replace the failed part with OEM, and walk the airflow path with you.
Ice on the evaporator with water collecting below is a defrost-cycle fault — a dead defrost heater, a failed defrost thermostat, or a frozen drain line. We warm and clear the drain, replace the part that quit, and restore the cycle so the coil sheds frost.
Constant clicking with no flame, or only one side sparking, is almost always the spark module or a single igniter — often after a boil-over soaks it. We dry and test the module, replace the failed igniter with a genuine Viking part, true the burner cap, and confirm a crisp first-click light.
A broiler that won't glow or a cavity that won't reach temperature usually traces to a burned-out broil or bake element, or on gas a weak glow-bar igniter no longer opening the safety valve. We meter the part, fit an OEM replacement, and run a test cycle.
Food scorching or baking slowly while the display looks right points to a drifting RTD sensor or lost calibration. We meter the RTD against its spec curve, replace it if it has wandered, check the convection fan, and recalibrate.
